Elana Ellison

Child Life Specialist

Elana Ellison is a Coach at MindFit and a Certified Child Life Specialist. Elana provides services to children, adolescents and parents under the supervision of Dr. Kim Edwards, C.Psych.

Training/Work Experience: Elana completed a Master of Arts in Early Childhood Studies from Ryerson University and obtained post-graduate diplomas in Child Life and Clinical Behavioural Sciences at McMaster University. She has worked in a variety of pediatric settings including McMaster Children’s Hospital, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, and Epilepsy Toronto.

Presenting Concerns: Elana has specific expertise in supporting children and youth with anxiety, chronic pain, sleep difficulties, ADHD, and emotion-regulation challenges. Elana also works with children and youth impacted by medical conditions or experiencing anxiety in relation to medical procedures (including needle fears). She provides parent coaching around behavioural strategies and effective communication techniques, including teaching collaborative problem solving.

Approach: Elana engages young people through evidence-based hands-on therapeutic play and creative activities to teach practical and effective tools and strategies. She uses a variety of modalities in her work, which draws from cognitive behavioural therapy and child life theoretical frameworks.

Outside of MindFit: Elana enjoys spending time outdoors walking and biking, looking through cookbooks for new recipes to try, and spending time with her family.
